WIST Apprenticeship Readiness Program Application - DETROIT, MI only:

Please complete the following questions if you are interested in consideration for the WIST ARP. This competency-based training program is sponsored by the North American Building Trades Union (NABTU), and features the construction-focused Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). During the 16-week program, participants will be provided classroom and hands-on training to learn about the different construction skilled trades. Participants will be provided with required safety equipment and access to various tools and materials used in the building trades.

Completing this application is the first step in the screening and selection process, which will include an eligibility review, skills assessment, and an interview with program representatives. Submitting the application does not guarantee acceptance into the program, nor does it imply that an offer of employment will be made by any of the partnering companies/apprenticeship programs. Those who complete the program, however, will have gained skills and confidence for work in the construction industry, receive a nationally recognized certificate of completion, and be given an interview opportunity with partnering companies/apprenticeship programs.

If extended an offer of employment, the ARP participant will be entered into a United States Department of Labor (USDOL) Registered Apprenticeship Program with the hiring company. For additional information on USDOL Registered Apprenticeships, please visit https://www.dol.gov/apprenticeship/

Required for the WIST ARP**:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Age 18 or older

  • Proof of US citizenship or Permanent Residence Card (able to legally work in the US)

  • Ability to pass a drug test if offered employment at end of Program

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (a valid Driver’s License may be required if offered employment)

  • Reliable transportation to get to training sessions

  • Agree to assessment testing and screening and a panel interview

  • Be able to interpret, communicate, read, and write in English

  • Have minimum proficiency in math, reading, & locating information

  • A Work Keys math test will be given as part of the selection process.

  • Drug Test

**Trade Union Apprenticeship programs may have requirements of their own that may differ.

This application will remain open through January, 2024 (or until the cohort is full). Interviews are scheduled to take place on Saturdays beginning in January 2024Classes are scheduled to begin in February, 2024.

Completion of the WIST ARP could lead to acceptance in to a Registered Trade Union Apprenticeship program. Apprentices will earn while they learn, and received continued training in their designated trade.
